What shaft length?Evinrude 8hp?

Hi can anyone please tell me what the shaft length is on this model 8hp evinrude.Model=BE8BALCOB. Serial= B011539.Can this be used on an inflatable dinghy?,transom height from top tokeel on boat= 15 inches.Please help?

That model number makes that motor an evinrude 8Hp 1985 model year with a 20" shaft from belgium with a rope start and AC lighting.

Hi .Many thanks,looks like may have wrong one.Can i make this into a short shaft?.It looks like there is a removable 5" spacer above cavitation plate.Any ideas?

Hi
You can not take that spacer out as your drive shaft and water intake pipe will
be still for a 20 inch shaft. You could look for another lower unit for the engine
but can be costly. My 2 cents throw it on and use it the way it is. Just keep in
mind your lower unit is lower in the water then normal when in shallow water.
I used a merc with a 24" shaft on a 12 foot boat for years with not a problem.
