How to service the shifter and cables?

It is a 89 Wellcraft Eclipse. It has a quicksilver throttle arm / shifter with the big trailer button, and the trim swith being on the center of the arm, rather than the switches on the top sides.

Problem is it is hard to shift and throttle. When the new gimbal ring was installed they put a new shift cable on and said the problem is in the lever and cables. They were going to charge another $700 to replace the lever. I thought that was too high.

It should have a friction adjuster, you might try loosening it and see if it helps.
Disconnect the cables at the shifter and see how hard they move.

Not at the boat as of now, is this something hard to figure out? I have never taken one of these apart.

There is a manual in the adults only section for the controls. May not be your exact model, but may be similar enough.

Yeah AA, #9, last manual on list, I think you want section 4-A. Good luck.

It's probably past time to replace the throttle and shift cable. You will need to open the box to do so and at that time you can lube the heck out of it with white grease.
