Been reading here for awhile, found some interesting things. Now I have a question. I have just completed a rebuild on my 4.3l volvo penta gm v6. How long should it take to get cooling water to come out of the exhaust using "muffs"? I did plug the hole in the bottom of the outdrive, ran the engine for about 60 seconds and no water yet. Do have water at the raw water pump, but don't want to get my new engine too hot. Any help?

ok, when you started motor did you see the drive suck up the water? it should suck up 90% of the water when idling, if you have no leaks inside and all hoses are on right it has to be going somewhere, i have seen boats suck up water at first then stop pumping water after a few second because the water had no where to go. it may take 30 seconds or so to fill up the block and exhaust manifolds, thanks Ron

I failed to mention that there was quite a bit of water leaking out around the muffs. Couldn't get a good seal there. I backed the boat into water, pulled a couple of hoses off the engine and started it. Got water everywhere. Cleaned up my mess and went boating for the rest of the day. Thanks for the replies!

I had the same problem with mine (rectangle ones) I had to adjust them 90 degrees to ge a good seal.

Great news, enjoy !
