Possible Fuel related issue?

Hi,

When traveling at high speed (if you consider 35 mph high speed with my 70HP outboard :)), my engine suddenly shuts off. It will restart, only to shutoff again a little later. I have been told that it is "probably" a fuel issue, and that I either have bad gas or a plugged fuel filter.

Question - I own a 17ft Glastron with an internal tank. Does anyone know if there is a fuel filter near the tank? The problem is that the fuel line enters the tank below my floor and I can not see the clamp to get the hose off. Before I proceed any further, I would like to verify that indeed there is a filter there.

Thanks for any help you can provide. Also, any other thoughts on what may be causing my motor to just shutoff like that?

Thank you!

Does the primer bulb go flat? If not, it is likely the tank side of the primer bulb is OK. Check/clean the filters from primer to motor.

May be a screen on the pickup tube inside the tank. Doubtful

Welcome to iboats!

Sudden shut down is normally ignition.......

Fuel shut off will not be sudden and is actually dangerous to a motor .....because you are cutting off lubrication.

What motor brand?

People will spend hours studying the fuel lines and pumps. Later they find that the fuel tank vent was plugged. If the boat runs hard for awhile, then stops, the tank may have enough vacuum to stop the fuel flow.

yes but a sudden shut-off is electric. Even a loose ground on the battery will do this.

I know when my motor cycle did that it was the CDI ignition box breaking down.
I had to let it cool down before it would start again.
