Hello,
I have been all over this forum but can get a definite answer. Where exactly does the tach wire connect to the motor? And if anyone knows the color that would be great too.

Thanks,
Tom

Re: Tach wire

The tach wire gets its signal from the stator. Not knowing your engine, more than likely it will be on the same terminal as one of your stator wires. I know on most engines, it comes off the Rectifier/Regulator and hooks in with the stator wire.

Tach lead can be grey or purple.Did you boat come with a tach? If not they usually taped it back at the end of the wiring harness cable. It is probably hooked up at the motor.J

Yes, as far as I know it came with a tach. But I am the 3rd owner, however I do know the two previous owners and I will ask them. The reason I wrote this pst is when I turn on the gauges the tach pegs "0" but the needle don't move no matter the rpms.

Look at the diagram on your powerhead. There should atleast be a wire from the rectifier that goes to the terminal block on the powerhead. If there's a wire connected to the other side of the terminal then you'll have to look at the terminal under the dash.

On my 1990 120 force it is a purple wire that comes from the rectifier then goes to the terminal block, then to the dashboard.

Re: Tach wire

If your rectifier is bad, don?t buy the aftermarket part. Buy the radio shack rectifier, it is the same one as the aftermarkets for 5 bucks verses 20 or 30. I learned that from one of my threads, didn?t heed the advice of an expert and spent almost 20 for a Sierra aftermarket, what a waste of money.
