HI All,

I have a 2000 50 hp Johnson, and I am having problems cold starting it.

I have read the Sticky Cold Starting procedures and followed them but I am still having problems. Once I start it it starts fine, but I have been having to spray a gas oil mix (not starting fluid as recommended by other posts that I read (Thanks for the tip)) into carb to get the motor going the first time. After it starts the first time it starts with out a problem. It's the initial start that I am having problems with. Any ideas.

Thanks in advance

Regards

Are you sure the primer solenoid is working?
Remove one of the hoses to a carb, actuate the primer solenoid and see if gas squirts out.

Re: Having a cold starting problem

Thanks for the tip, I am going to check it when I get home from work to see if that's the problem. I will keep you posted on the progress.

The forums are great and full of knowledgeable people. I find myself reading a lot of other post just to gain knowledge.

Thanks to everyone who posts here and helps people like me learn a little more and save a lot of money/time out of the water.

Daviet,

It looks like you were correct. I connected PS and pulled the top hose for the carb. and no fuel came out. I guess I know my next purchase. I hope I can get it tomorrow. Anyone know any good parts places here in Miami (Preferably in theDoral Area so I can go at lunch).

Thanks again.

Any of the johnson/evinrude dealers should have it....check the yellow pages...if not you may have to travel a bit

Re: Having a cold starting problem

One more question on this subject is it better/more cost effective if I purchase a rebuild kit for the PS or is replacing it the best option? At this point there was no clicking when I had 12V going directly to the PS.

Thanks
