Tach question?

My tachometer has quit working. When I switch the ignition key on the tach goes to 0 which I assume it should, when I crank the engine over it reads 1000rpms +or-, but once the engine fires it reads 0 again. Last night I checked the rectifier and it seems to be charging and passed the ohm meter test.

Tonight when I get off work I thought I would run a wire from the yellow & grey wire from the stator to the Tachometer. Shouldn't this tell me if the tach is good? Am I thinking clearly here?

Any other suggestions?

Re: Tach question?

I would think you are on the right track. I think different models of your motor have different charging components, but the yellow/grey wire is the tach signal. Some of those motors have a 20A water cooled VR, instead of a rectifier. Are you sure what you have?

To remove the rectifier from the equation, why not connect your new wire to one of the yellow stator wires?
