For those of you with an I/O-do you cover the lower unit too? I'ev got a great cover for the boat but I just wonder if the FL sun and weather is bad for the lower unit bit. This is my 1st boat so I want to do it right.
i don't cover mine in the summer since i might use the boat the next day. but for winter layup i take precautions. i remove the drive completely and store it inside.
made me this neat little gizmo.
a bell housing cover. made if from some spare plexiglass i had around and glued a vitamin bottle on it to allow for the shift slide. it seems to work pretty good. i've used it two years now and like it.. they do sell something similar to do the same work. i just ended up being cheap and making my own.
The paint on the lower unit is the same as the paint on your car. If you cover your car, you may want to cover the lower unit. If you don't worry about covering your car, don't worry about covering the lower unit.
