Hello Guys, i pulled out my boat this past weekend and ran for 3 min and found a bunch of water pouring out of the side of the motor, noticed there was a small cap on the ground and water pouring out of a hole on the right side of the engine.. there was also a watery oil mixture coming through the valve cover breather tubes and flame arrestor. I stopped it and got towed in.

I didn't winterize it this year (i know bad) and just wondering if it could be a cracked block or head gasket.. is it easy to tell which it could be? for a cracked block i was quoted $8000, which makes sense since you need a new block.. but just wondering if there is anything else i could try... i uploaded a pic of the engine.

Engine: OMC 230 Sterndrive

If the oil pan filled with water in your 3 minute run on muffs, you have a cracked block. End of story.

The small round plug you saw is the freeze plug.It will pop out when engine freezes up,but in your case,it might have also cracked the block.dude11

You would have to pressure test the block to tell or find the crack. As Don has said if it filled the pan with water in a short run forget about being lucky at all, water coming from a pushed out core plug does not normally get into the engine. There has to be a crack in the motor somewhere. On another note 8000 sounds pricey but I have no idea when it comes to OMC stuff.

Good luck with the repairs.
