i have a 15hp that i am trying to take the propeller off. i have to force the nut to turn and it looks like the piece the nut is threaded on to (prop shaft?) is turning also. i turned it just a little and noticed that. should i try to keep turning it? it is lefty loosy right? oh and yes i took the cotter pin out. the problem initially was while underway when throttled up the rpms would go up but not speed.? thanks for all the help!

Re: 15hp propeller problem

might try to put motor in gear and pull the kill switch so there is no way it will fire up if you turn the motor and it fires.

I that will not help then a impact wrench would be my next thought. But be careful you do not want to hurt the gears and bearings

i can hold the prop stationary, it is the rod the castle nut is threaded on to that turns with the nut. i am using an open ended 11/16 wrench so i can see the nut turning while holding the propeller with my hand. im spraying it with pb blaster too. i dont want to damage anything by turning it too much.

Re: 15hp propeller problem

by putting in gear , the shaft is locked into the motor and will have to turn the whole motor. Since the prop hub is slipping I do not know of a better way to put more strain on the shaft
