62 Johnson 5.5 hp gearcase leaking

I have a 62 (cd19s) Johnson outboard. I replaced the fuel pump, the water pump and rebuilt the carb. Have had it on the water a few times and it runs like a top. Noticed gearcase oil coming from the water intake screen and a very slow drip from the exhaust after the motor was used. Unscrewed the greacase filler and found about 2 oz of water in the gearcase. No metal pieces and the oil was not milky. Sounds like the drive shaft seal or the shift rod seal is leaking. Can I replace these seals from the top (under the water pump) or do I have to break the gearcase and rebuild the whole unit? Can I replace the gear oil with Lubriplate 105 for the rest of the season to postpone the rebuild until this winter? Any help would be appreciated.

The driveshaft seal can be replaced from the top.
The o-ring for the shift is under a bushing and unless you can find a way to pull it from the top, you will have to remove the skeg, and drive it out from the bottom.
If you don't use the engine very much, you can probably just keep a eye on the lower unit oil, refill when you have water in it.
Of course the proper repair is to reseal the lower unit.

Thanks for your help. I want to delay the reseal until this winter. Could you point me in the direction of a website that describes how to do the reseal? Or a way of getting the few pages from the repair manual for this procedure? Thanks again
