Hello all - My name is Tom
I was wondering if I could get some boaters out there to help a newbi out. I just bought an 86 Imperial CV230. I don't know much about the boat other than the prior owner said I would need a water pump. Guess I am looking for some history on this model. good/bad... From what I have been able to determine it has a merc 4cyl with a full cooling system ( please correct me if I am wrong)- not sure how many liters and a merc stern. The boat seems to be solid and worth fixing up. What are your thoughts - what should I look for. By the way I picked it up for 150.00 - (the stereo is worth that)

Welcome to iboats.

Well model history is really not important now since you own it.

If you intend on getting it sea worthy you need to determine what engine is actually in the boat. Based on your brief information it almost sounds like a 3.7 liter 470. A few engine pictures will tell the story.

We have a great set of links to most of the mercruiser manuals online. Do you intent to fix it up yourself?
