We lost power in the neighborhood last night, which gave me a chance to fire up a small{1000watt} generator my neighbor gave me two years ago. Good enough to run the frig & chest freezer, but too small to fire up the window shaker{AC}.
The smiles came from the wife after I brought in a deep cycle battery from the boat, and connected a small 200watt inverter, she had her lil' TV, HD Antenna, fan, and a lamp all going at the same time....peace in the valley...Dogs and I hogged the fan ;), she got control of the remote :D

Oh yeah...the outage was over in about 5 hours, but man what tough hours they were, humidity thru the roof, low 90's and slowly dropping temp... we are way too spoiled compared to my youth!

Re: Power outage smiles

We had some outages here this afternoon. It would go off, then back on in a minuet. The cable box would have to reboot which takes about 20 minuets. Then after it would get done, then the power would flicker again causing it to reboot. This went on for about 3 hours. It was crazy. Couldn't get on the computer, watch TV, and busy resetting stuff. I would rather it be off for awhile then come back on for good.

I too have a generator and inverter. It usually comes in more handy during the winter months. Great item to have for sure :D...........SS

I'm preparing for it with the stuff I'm seeing on radar for Missouri right now.

I really need to pickup a generator.

Maybe more so for Texas than here at LOTO.

We lost ours I think, due to overloading the grid, transformer blowing or some such... no rain storms at the time

We had a transformer in the backyard in Texas explode about 2 or 3 Springs ago. (Pretty dramatic explosion)

It was clear and the first warm day. I guess the transformer and grid couldn't take it with people cranking up their AC for the first time of the season.

Power was re-routed and up in a few hours. The transformer was replaced in 5 hours. The power company was happy that they could use my boat gate to get their truck in.

You guys and all your electronics. Last power outage we had we left the generators off and lit candles, had a fondue for dinner and taught our youngest son how to play cribbage. It turned out to be a good family night.:)

Last power outage we all lied on the basement floor next to the dogs, napped, and panted with them until the A/C fired up again! Excellent family time :D

Way too hot for open fire of any kind...and I haven't heard 'cribbage' in a long time...luved that game.

Been 20 something years since I lived where we had a basement, miss those cooler temps but not the flood damage every year or two. Our dog back then loved the basement too.

Had a power cut at home a few years ago. I isolated the house from the grid and hooked up my genny to the main board. Gave us about 2Kw of power which was enough for lights/run boiler/tv etc it worked so well that it was as if nothing had happened at all, and spoilt the event totally! Confused the hell out of the neighbours tho...

OHHH, That's to easy but really fun!
Throwing out the left bower to find the right then the off suit flurry.
Counting on your partner for at least one trick, one can hope.

Try pepper, you play individually and call (bid) your game/hand, trump or no trump.
I have not played that one in years either.

Re: Power outage smiles

Our power was out when we got home from work last week I believe on Thursday when it was 100 degrees. There were outages all over our town. We decided to go out for dinner instead of opening the fridge/freezer and letting the cold air out. We went to Five Guys (burgers) and when we got there they had power and were serving but for whatever reason (maybe it had been out) their A/C wasn't working and it was hot as heck in the restaurant. I voted to leave but my wife wanted a burger so we stayed. I was so glad that we went out to worse conditions than our house  Oh well, it was a darn good burger. Power was back on when we got home.
