Hey all!

I am currently rebuilding the carb on my 1954 JW-10 and I can't get this one part of the $%#@# float assembly to come off. Its this screw that is above the pin that touches the float.

In this picture it is the little thing just above the gasket pictured. It is just getting stripped and I cut a new groove in it to try again and even that is getting stripped. Someone must have tightened it to like a million 1000000 ft/lbs.

Anyone know how I can get this bastard to move? I can't go any further until I can get it off!!

Try heat.
Dump the whole thing in some boiling water with luck the aluminium will expand more than the brass and release its grip.
Also try tightening a little first.

Flight,

I believe what you are referring to is the float needle seat. I am assuming the pic you posted is something you found off the Internet and not your carb. Have you tried using a flat piece of metal laid across the slot (a strong piece that fits the entire length/width of the slot), rather than a screwdriver? The heat method the other poster suggested may help too. If you want to add to that, heat the carb assembly up W/ boiling water, then pull it out (wearing gloves obviously) and press an ice cube up to the needle seat (brass part) for a couple minutes. The expansion of the aluminum, with the shrinking of the brass from the cold may be enough to get it free. Worst case is you may need to drill the seat out, until you can get it thin enough that you can squeeze the brass, and get it to pull away from the aluminum threads (you may want a little help with this from someone experienced W/ drilling out bolts). Or if the seat seems like its still making a good seal against the needle, clean up the seat w/ carb clean, and leave it in.

that is a picture of my carb (that one is from a Lightwin same difference).

Also I tried to cut the slot out to try and crush it. Half of it is in there now and I broke one of the posts off for the float itself. I want to murder whoever installed the float seat!!!!!!!! ARGHHHHHHH!

Cut my hand up nice too!

Sounds like your upper carb body is done for with the post for the float broken off but you might be able to fix it with some JB weld in the right spots. If this ever happens to you again get an impact screw driver with the right bit in it and it may work. Been there and done that.
