Hi all,

I have a Mariner 90 it seems to be a 1985 model, but not sure. Serial number is:6625062. Does any one know the year?? and would it be 90 at the prop or at the fly wheel??

Thanks

Yep, 1985. 90hp at the crankshaft, somewhat less at the prop.

Thanks mate,

10% to 15% less at the prop Im told. Its a great motor and never had a problem. Although mates of mine recon to use it as an anchor and upgrade to a newer 90

About right. Tell your mates they're idiots who are talking out of their collective be-hinds! Tell them you'll upgrade, if they pay for it... :D:D As far as that 90 goes, it's way lighter than a new one, by about 30lbs....

The old inline 6 is still my favourite engine. Easy as to work on and reliable. A little noisy, but oh, what a noise. :D

I agree mate, Parts are easy to come by and reasonably cheap. just on another tack, the pitock tube from the leg of the motor to the speedo i have replaced but the speedo does not work still. Im assuming that I need another speedo, possibly an after market one.

Take the tube off the engine and give it a good puff. If the speedo moves, then check/clear the blockage in the pickup. If the speedo doesn't move and the air is not escaping through a hole in the tube somewhere, replace the speedo. Any aftermarket will do. Pressure in the tube is pressure in the tube, doesn't matter about length or diameter....

Personally, I don't use pitot speedos any more. GPS is waaaay more accurate... Especially at low speeds.
