:D Howdi, just wondering if anyone has got any good cleaning ideas for a Gal trailer, the galvanizing has lost it's shine and looks very flat,
I would like to clean it up and make it look a little newer.

thanks

You could try wiping it down with mineral spirits...that is what used car lots would do to put a temporary 'shine' on weathered paint jobs.

Happy boating!

Mine looks like crap as well, it even has a little bit of surface rusty kind of stuff on it. I thought Galvanized meant it won't rust but there is some on the fenders. Anyway, what I was thinking on doing was to paint it. I'll prep the metal, prime it & I guess I'll rattle can it gloss black. Then clear the heck out of it to try & protect the paint. I choose the rattle can approach because of the easy touch up factor when it's needed.

The galvanizing is zinc plating which oxidizes a flat grey color, that's the way it's supposed to look. If you remove the oxidized zinc to make it shiny, it'll be back dull again in a couple of months. Best just to leave it alone.

One other thing, you can buy a "cold galvanizing" zinc paint in a spray can at the automotive store to touch up any rusty areas where the zinc was knocked off the base steel by drilling, ginding, or other.
