my johnson 150 motor wont start. It has a new battery. The switch turns but its like there is no connection. Put it up about 6 months ago and it was running fine. Cleaned all cables, checked all fuses. Power to horn radio and bilge pump ok. What could it be? Solenoid? By passed it and it turns and engages(hot wired). What is the problem? Help!

You say "checked all fuses..." Hmmmm.....there is only ONE fuse that will cause the symptoms you describe. So your statement should have been..."Checked the engine fuse..."
It is located in a fuse holder very near the starter solenoid. It is a red wire inline fuse off the large cable from the positive battery post.

Look for that fuse. I think you were checking boat wiring fuses, not the engine fuse.

If it is blown, then you still have a problem...what caused it to blow in the first place?

By the way, I had to ASSume a bit...you never say what year this 150 is. If it is after 1996, look for a red plug holding an automotive blade type fuse. Should be on the port side near where the positive battery cable comes in.

You never say if you checked the inline fuse at the engine, coming off the positive lead from the starter solenoid. Check that first. It is in a small rubber fuse holder.

If you can find the solenoid terminal that has the yellow/red wire going to it, jump that terminal to the positive battery post. If the starter engages, and tries to start the engine, the solenoid is not bad.

There are only two small terminals on the starter solenoid. One is the yellow/red solenoid pick wire, the other is ground (black). Don't jump from the batt positive to the ground wire. You will burn up the jumper wire.
