Water Pump Questions and Cooling advice

On a 1998 Johnson 30hp J30RCCE ...

I am looking at the water pumps on iboat and have a couplwe of questions...

1) Mallory or Sierra as far as brand? What has everyone had the best luck with?


2) The pump kit WITH housing is only a few dollars more... One brand looks plastic, one looks metal...

Is there any reason NOT to replace the housing (It has been at least five years since anything was replaced) and if I AM going to replace the housing,
which of these two will give my motor the best protection?

For mine, I replace the entire water pump. Like you said, only a few dollars more. It's the same amount of labor either way. Then I don't have to worry about it for 3-4 years. Just my 2 cents.

Both brands are reputable.

As said before, replace the whole thing and be done with it. This way you can hit the water and not worry about a worn part on your water pump......ya know??
