Problem with 2 stroke 50hp

Hi all, new to the board. Question with my motor:

1 - It's a 2006 model year 50hp two stroker outboard

2 - It refuses to start properly. At all. Ever. Usually takes five minutes of cussing while I'm on the ramp to get it moving.

3 - When it finally DOES start, it spews a nice cloud of white smoke everywhere/

4 - It idles fine sometimes, like crap other times. No rhyme or reason to it.

I've had the following work done to it, just this year -

New plugs.
Throttle and carbs readjusted
Bendix drive lubed (it quit last weekend)

I just picked it up from the shop on Friday, had it on the water yesterday (Sunday), and had to get towed in. Took a couple of minutes (as usual) to get it started on the ramp for launch, quit once while I was parking, restarted fine, and so we went out. FYI - it also gave out in the middle of the lake last time we were out, for no apparent reason. Started back up fine, and yes, the gas tank is full.

So, we're out swimming, and then pack up to go fishing. Starts fine (the ONLY time in recent memory it has), and we tie up to go fish a bit with the kids. We try to leave, and the boat refuses to start. I start smelling gas and see a bit of it on the water, so we wait a while (15 min or so). No luck.

This goes on for nearly an hour - waiting, and trying to start. Ran one battery down, and had to take the one from up front and move it back (I have the same size battery for my trolling motor) to try some more. Finally, after NO luck, a guy takes pity on us, and tows us the mile back to the marina.

The engine sat unused for over an hour, and was still flooded after I trailered it. I could see gas dripping out from the lower unit after we recovered and I was securing it after getting it out of the water.

That's the history of this motor - we've been towed in at least three times, and it's NEW. I'm sick and tired of it, and really tired of spending money at the shop for them to tell me "It starts fine". I'm at the point where I want to hijack an employee and take them out with me, so that can see the misery my engine puts me thru....works fine, my rear end.

Any suggestions on what I can do, either on my own or at the shop? It obviously doesn't work right, and when I took it in at the beginning of the year, I mentioned the carbs might need to be rebuilt. Either they didn't check, or the carbs were fine, since they didn't repair them. Each and every time I take it in, I get stuck with a $100 bill, and am told - it works fine, we just had to do a little bit of routine maintenance. The engine is under an extended warranty, as well, but routine stuff ain't covered.

Any help is appreciated.

I'm sensing a little frustration....;) Sorry you're having so much trouble. Maybe you should take it back and ask to be present when they test it. You could use the pretense that you want to be sure you're using the correct starting procedure. If you're there when they run it you'll know whether they are really attempting to address the issue or just giving you the runaround.
