I have a 1990 Johnson GT VRO 150 outboard. My impeller went bad, so need to take the lower unit off to change it. Got all bolts free and unit begins to drop. Problem is I can not figure out how to unhook the gear rod to free it all the way. I thought the lower unit would pull right off. Can someone stear me in the right direction on how to successfully pull the lower unit ?
Thanks

under your bottom carb you will find a linkage pin with a 3/8 hea that also has a slot for slotted screwsriver.it may be easire with the eng in rev.to see ,that pin needs to be removed

Thanks for that reply. Does that linkage rod come all the way out with my lower unit ? You are a life saver

The shift rod comes out with the lower unit. Make sure you don't screw that rod in or out, as it is set to a specific height at the factory.
