I have what I was told when purchased was a 90hp johnson, but after looking at the model number I believe it is a Evinrude. The model number is EBBMSLENB. The best I can tell it's a 88hp 92 model rude. Is this correct? Also what gas oil/ratio should I use? Any certain type of oil or can I just pick some up at Wal-Mart? Thanks for the input.

Look for the TC-W3 NMMA rating on the oil.

The fuel/oil ratio is 50:1, using 87 or 89 US Octane gasoline to TC-W3 oil.

Model numbers for most recreational J/E motors are coded to the word INTRODUCES, where I = 1, N = 2 and so on. Click the thumbnail, please.

I think your model number is E88 (not BB) MSLENB

Making it an 1992 88 hp Evinrude as you deduce. With a long shaft, manual tilt and electric start.

the 88 is really a 90 hp motor, without the bells & whistles -- premix instead of VRO, couple other minor differences. And since Johnson & Evinrude are interchangeable part for part, your seller was essentially correct, just a mistake in the nomenclature.

Thanks for the info. It does however have power tilt/trim. This is what was throwing me.After looking again it is 88. So its safe to say that it is a '92 88hp rude that was possible changed to power t/t.
Thanks,
Mike
