It was 111 F here yesterday, but with the wind chill it only felt like 107! :)

Gonna need to break out the Winter clothes if it gets any colder! Wait, my Winter clothes and Summer clothes are the same clothes.

No matter, lets go boatin'! :)

Ole' DR!!

I agree that it is a lot easier to adapt and enjoy 111*F than it is to adapt and enjoy -20*F. A good hat (one that you can soak in the cooler and then put back on) some 30 SPF and plenty of Gator Ade will do the trick. Save the alcohol for evening, it is bad for you in the sun.

Just try floating your boat at -20*. :(

I miss Arizona to a point. "But it's a dry heat"...my back side. I sweat just as much there as I did in Texas.

OK, OK, I miss it a lot...just trying to convince myself otherwise.

My oven is a dry heat, too.... doesn't mean I wanna live in it

Now of course I'm living in humid FL, which I hate, except for the year round boating (wife loves it, otherwise I'd be somewhere else).

I used to live out in Tucson. I do remember that even when the air temperature was 110 degrees, if you jumped into the pool and then got out, the water would evaporate so quickly off your skin that it gave you the chills. Or when we went motorcycle riding, you would just soak your shirt and put on a vented jacket over it. By the time you got to where you were going your shirt was dry and you stayed cool the whole way.

There was always tricks to beat the heat when evaporative cooling actually worked.

Here in Eastern Iowa it''s 93 F, 66% humidity, 80 F dew point and heat index of 112. As former local meteorologist used to be fond of saying, "that's what it fe-e-e-e-e-els like out there."

Update: Iowa City now reporting heat index at 119.

I don't know I can agree with that... I've lived in Florida for 2 years (soon to be moving back), But always a Mass native. I've skiid at Jay peak in N Vermont on -10 degree days. What i've learned is you can put on layer after layer until your warm, but you can only get so naked.

The toweless showers are great. By the time I get my eyebrows out of my eyes, the rest of me is dry.

I would rather it be 107 than 90 and 90(90 degrees/90 percent humidity). No way could I live on the east coast.

We just had one of those days here in MN, normally known for it's tundra and driving on the lakes.

House is at about 75 degrees, with just well water running through a coil in the furnace. Walked outside about 3 pm and my glasses fogged up. 'bout had to slice a path through the air with a machete.

113 today. Calling for 116 tomorrow. The hottest I've ever seen it was in Lake Havasu City, 123 degrees. We couldn't fly that day. Not because the helicopter can't handle the heat, but because the performance charts only go up to 122 degrees. Guess they figured it will never get THAT hot. Well, it did and lemme tell ya, that is flippin' HOT!!

Re: I Love Arizona!

75 is my limit. If it's 74 I feel a chill. By the same token, I can spend a tripple digit day in the desert with only a quart of water. I seldom sweat and can hold my pee all day. Dehydration isn't as much of a problem for me as most people. Im 65 and still do all the things I did 30 years ago; 'cause I never stopped doing them. You don't have to overdo; just get out and DO ; you'll be surprised at how soon you can do more!

lethargy weakens; effort strengthens.

I'll trade wives wit ya Beefer:p. We just got back from St Croi. Wife hid in the hotel room most of the time. I just kept truckin (had to slice your way through the air) It did make me run at half throttle but I never laid down!

The heat doesn't actually bother me as long as I stay out in it. It's going in/out of air conditioned buildings all day that leaves me feeling wrung out.

Of course, the same was true in Minnesota, going in/out of heated buildings when it was -20.

This time of year we also have some humidity too. It's been threatening rain for a week.
