What year/info is this motor...need help

Hey guys

I just got a engine for my nephew. Guy told us it was a 2000 6hp yamaha but I think it's a 5hp either a nissan/tohatsu or a yamaha. When I look up either a yamaha or nissan/tohatsu they seem like only 5hp and under had the internal tanks. As you will see the pic, it had a internal tank cut out at the top of the cowling and a mount above the power head.

Only info I have on engine is the stamped circle number off the powerhead since it's be repainted.

Serial ? 08568


Says use BRP7HS10 if its a nissan/tohatsu 5HP (it had a BR7HS10, what is the diffrence between BRP and BR)

And if its a yamaha says to use B7HS

Im going to need the following info when we find out what it really is...(I prolly can look it up but if you know feel free to chime in)

1)Spark plugs it should take
2)Oil Ratio
3)Lower Gear Oil

Could be a Tohatsu 4 & 5 HP engine, but definitely a Tohatsu.
Plugs are : BPR7HS-10 or BP7HS-10 with resistor as first one or without as second, gapped to tight 1.0 mm for both. BP Tips protudes larger than BR tips. Oil gas/ratio ; normal 50:1, Gear oil : multigrade 80/90 or fixed 90 gear oil (195 ml gear case capacity) There are 2 versions, with internal tank and internal/external 3.0 gal tank.

Got some new fuel lines ,spark plug, and a tank. Also got a harness kill switch. Did not start at first, but we opened the carb/fuel pump up and cleaned it.The float needle was the worst thing that was dirty. And now it starts up in 1 pull. Pisses like a race horse and compression was over 100 PSI too. All for $230.

My nephew is very happy

It is a Nissan NS5B. Canada has a requirement to use resistor plugs so all Nissan's came with the R plugs OEM. In the U.S. it is routine to not bother with resistor replacement plugs unless there is a problem with interference.

Yup i was thinking the same thing....sorta. To think the guy said it was a 2000 6hp Yamaha.

2003 Nissan NS5B , diagrams had the same square choke knob, the others had round ones. Also it had a thing on the plate that hooks to the transom saying to complied with some canadian laws on emisions or some thing to that nature.

So when we grabbed all the gear at west marine and ACE hardware I grabbed a new BRP7HS-10.

Not that it matters, but it is a 1999 or older. That particular Nissan paint scheme was not used for 2000 or newer models.
