Hi does anyone know if a 1994 crankcase cover can fit and work on a 1992/1993 crankcase. Reason I am asking is that I recently had a 1994 Johnson 150 60 degree V6 but it developed that leak in the number one cylinder so I purchased a used block that was machined and said to not leak however the vendor thought is was a 1995 or newer block but it turns out that it is a earlier year than 1994 because the crankcase cover on the block doesn't have the upper bearing vent in it that tee's into the air box. I went online and looked to see what years the upper bearing vent started and it was in 1994 so I am wondering if my 1994 crankcase cover with the vent can work on this 1992/1993 crankcase. I think they made improvments as year came so wouldn't want to go backwards.

You can't swap crankcase halves - the crankcase and block are machined as one for the crankshaft bore, so they are a matched set.

Thanks, that what I thought just wanted to hear it. I guess I might have to get this crankcase cover drilled for a vent then which I don't think should be difficult.

I hope I don't have the same leak problem with this block because this is even older than my other one and I heard that the earlier ones had the problem.
