How do you get to the starter on a 1998 monteray explorer to replace it? Thanks

Hard to say without looking, but not uncommon at all to have to remove an exhaust manifold or even remove the whole engine, starters can be a real P.I.T.A.

I have a 97 and just changed out the starter. It's a little tight, but with a little work you can get to it without taking the exhaust off.

You may want to consider shims. I had to use .0400 shims to get it to stop binding. Good luck and happy knuckles.
