slow speed needle closes....

Hey everyone, i have a 1975 50hp Evinrude outboard, and after i adjust the slow speed screw to where it idles nicely and I either raise the idle or put it in gear and throttle it, the slow speed screw seems to be closing shut on me. So when I start to slow to an idle it need to be adjusted again to be able to idle smoothly and start again smoothly. (I really think its just the engines vibrations shaking it closed because it seems very loos)
Is there a way to tighten the screw so it wont close on me? Oh and the high speed is fine and doesn't vibrate or move during operation.

Sounds to me like you need a new retainer around the low speed needle. Part # 315232 which you can get at any Evinrude dlr.

It is that key-hole shaped plastic thing where the needle enters the carburetor.

There's a high speed adjustment on a '75 50hp? I thought they did away with them in the early 60's?

sweet thanks for the pat number. Ya i thought the lower needle was the high speed unless its just two low speed needles which i haven't seen. Thanks for the help guys.

so for maybe an easy question but if i unscrew that needle will the retainer com out so i can replace?? do i need to take it apart to do it? Thanx for your help.

it is a plastic/rubber washer. if you used a carb kit you will have it.
