I have just bought a tracker 14' 72" wide & 20" deep. Also bought a 25 horse Yamaha 2 stroke. With just me in it, it will come up & start to plane & then just not quite. I have the motor in the 2nd from bottom hole. I hope I am asking the right way as this is the first boat & motor I have ever had that should even try to plane. Thanks Butch

Re: Will not quite plane

NYGiants may have the right idea. I have a similar boat, 14 feet, 67 inch beam, 20 inches deep only with a Honda 15, 4-stroke. When I first took it out, with me, the gas tank and the battery in the stern, it planed up ok, but then began to porpoise. I moved the gas and the battery to the bow and now it planes quickly and stays there. Smooth ride.

I have a 14' lund with a 25hp 2stroke and it planes fine but when i move the gas and battery to the bow it rides alot smoother and quicker.

I have a similar rig and it jumps on plane even with the gas tanks, battery and me all in the back of the boat.

Check to be sure both cylinders are firing. If this was a used motor from another boat, check the engine specs in Yamaha's web site and make sure you are running the "std" prop.
