Need carb float for CD-14

Two questions to follow: I just rebuilt the carb on my 5.5 Seahorse and did not replace the cork float which was covered in shellac because I couldn't find a part number.

1) What is the part number for the correct float?

2) Could the old float be the reason the motor will not stay running for more than 30-45 seconds?

I though it was a fuel draw issue, but the tank has pressure and, with a single yank on the starter rope, the motor will fire right up, purr nicely but then shut off after about 45 seconds. I can throttle it up and them back to idle during that 45 seconds with no issues.

Any help out there? I use this motor on my San Juan 21 sailboat and really have enjoyed the easy starting and the abundant power. Plus it just looks cool.

If you pump the primer button on the tank, will it continue running?

No, because the primer button won't depress, it's still solid from priming (does that make sense?)

when you rebuilt did your clean the jets good and run a fine wire thru all the orfices..blow all the areas with compressed air.....your float may be sticking also...recheck your float....I believe there is some one who sells new floats and they are plastic..just not sure who it is off hand ..maybe some one will come and direct you to the sellers....

Yep, did all that. Twice just to be sure. Guess I'll tear the carb down again. Got nothing else to do this afternoon!

The new fuel-proof float is part number 396514, available from any Evinrude dealer. Have you considered the possibility it isn't a fuel issue? Have you checked the ignition system, especially the coils? If they are cracked, you are wasting your time till you replace them.

Nope, never looked at the coils.

Before I rebuilt the carb, the motor would run for short periods of time (say 2 minutes) at 3/4 throttle, then start to die. Pumping the primer button on the tank would revive the motor, so I figured it was a fuel draw issue. I replaced the fuel line but it made no difference, so I went on to rebuild the carb.

Now it won't run for more than 30 seconds, but like I noted, the primer button is hard and the tank as pressure.

Guess I need to read up on the coils.

Thanks.
