So, my Tohatsu M70B has been sitting up for about a year so I decide I will get her water ready again. Ordered a water pump rebuild kit because the impeller has never been changed and the motor is a 94! Anyway, the first two bolts come out with some force but the other two shear off inside the pumps lower case. So, proceed to drill out the bolts and I promptly drill into the lower unit! These holes are right beside the bolt holes that secure the water pump. My question is, would JB Weld hold up if I used it to repair and re-tap the bolt holes? Also, the drill did some minor damage to the pumps lower case as well. Same thing, will JB Weld hold up? Lots of vibration going on in this area. Any advice would be helpful. Like I said, bonehead of the year!!!

Thanks,
Bob

Re: Bonehead of the year

Bonehead is better than inbred retard so count your blessings. The short answer is, no on the JB Weld. You need to take it into a good welder and have them zip it for you. A good welder is going to tell you that they will have to heat up the aluminum of the L.U. to get a weld. If they don't mention this to you do not leave it with them. Buy a new lower pump housing too. And now you know why dealers charge you so much for such a simple job:)

Thanks for the reply and the laugh....inbred retard indeed! LOL! Anyway, I was expecting that answer but was hoping upon a miracle cure. You are right, it is obvious why dealers charge so much but where is the fun and education in that!? Thanks again for replying.....now, where did I leave that welding machine.........
