Johnson cd-12 5.5 hp gear problem

Flywheel turns when i pull the motor apart at the impeller, but does not turn when put together in any gear. Suggestions?? Thanx

Do you mean, that you turn the motor over by hand cranking, and the prop doesnt spin? Check to make sure your shear pin is good. Then I would look into the gearcase assembly, please give a lil more info and be detailed.

Or are you saying you can't rotate the flywheel, but you can if you remove the lower unit? That is a siezed gearcase. You will have to look inside to see why it is siezed. Could be full of rust. Or could have a broken shock absorber---the short shaft below the water pump.
