nissan 15hp 4 stroke problem

I have a Nissan 15hp model number nfs15b not sure of the year. emissions sticker says 05 06, i was under the impression it was a 01. Has been running fine, bought it a few weeks ago and take it out whenever I can. I changed the oil yesterday, and now it will only run for a few seconds then stalls and cuts off. I ask around and the marina said the oil should be fine I used 10w-30 automotive oil. I Am going today to get 4 stroke marine oil. Could this cause the stalling out? Or should i look elsewhere like the fuel line or carb? thanks in advance.

Look elseware as it is not the type of oil that is causing the problem. Chances are you have a dirty carburetor.

I did see a air bubble in the fuel filter is this normal? Will look into cleaning carb and checking lines and tank for trash. Thanks for the quick reply.

It's not abnormal, but if the majority of the filter is air that would be an issue.

Ok Cleaned carb, replaced gas, checked fuel pump and lines still no go. It will run with starter fluid. After i let it run for a few I took the screw out from the bottom of the carb to check for gas it was dry. The guy helping said the float could be sticking and not letting gas in? Is it time for a rebuild kit or can that be checked and adjusted? The carb was very clean on the inside but I cleaned all the holes and jets anyway.

If you cleaned the carb the float wouldn't be sticking...You need to have a professional clean the carb or go buy a one gallon pail of carburetor cleaner and do it correctly.

I must have need someone over my shoulder saying you missed a spot. Throttle valve was stuck in carburetor. Cleaned properly and it works like a champ. Thanks for the help. Going fishing today.
