mercruiser pre alpha swap with alpha one generation 2

i have a project boat with a locked up stern drive, mercruiser alpha one gen 2, i found a good deal on a 84ish pre alpha, i was wondering if the pre alpha will bolt up to the gen 2 transom, if not is there a way to make them compatable, thanks!!!

not sure exactly, but I know you cannot do the opposite (Alpha Gen II on Merc R/MR)....i think the bell housing is different, as well as the Y-pipe, transom seal, bellows, etc...you may also need to swap out the input shaft yoke to give it the correct length. probably a lot of work and money.

what kind of deal on this 84 are you getting? you can get a brand spankin' new SE-116 (aftermarket replacement for Gen II) for $1400 with the 3 year warranty...hard to beat that.
