OK make that clutch dog and forward gear

anyone see any reason why not to?

1995 115 hp ocean runner

I can set up in my shop and machine these gears with nice new sharp carbide tooling.

they are not really that bad at all.. I am refurbishing a lower unit and am getting close to reassembling everything..

I can machine the exact same amount off each of the three surfaces on each part...I cant think of any reason why it cant be done...but maybe i dont know everything ha ha ha

I probably only need to removed maybe .005-.010 to reduce the radiused edge back to original new specs..the contacts faces were maybe worn .001".. with even contact area

its usually the radius that grows and thus the height of the flat contact area... and the fact it gets angles that caused gears to pop out...I havent had any such issues...

but since i can do it myself..i am thinkiing to just go ahead..

I imagine most people just buy new gears..

I suspect it will be the same again as soon as you start using it.

the reverse is half the wear of the forward gear...if they are original, that tells me a sharpeneing would double its life, its lived so far.

Worst case senario is to do it and put it together and end up with a catastrophic failure.
Best case it works.

you could have at least reversed the order you listed them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1:redface:

dont know you could envision catastophic failure on something so simple????

I aint thinning the web on a rod end!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
