I have a Johnson 112 hp 4 cylinde, 1996 I believe. I replaced the same cooling gasket on the left side for the 3rd time as it leaks and weakens due to an initial factory flaw on the head.

So I put the water muffs on and ran the motor from the garden hose and water circulated better than before, with no leakage around the plugs, etc. Plus, water squirts out all the ports after circulating. I did not leave the motor on more than 20 seconds, just to make sure it started fine, etc.

Took it to the lake for the first time after this, and the CK ENG light and alarm come on immediately after starting even though engine is cold... like in less than 5 seconds. I'm not a master mechanic, but is there something obvious I am missing?

The only modifications from the original engines I have made is to replace the oil injection device with a regular device and I just dump the 2-cycle in when I put gas in the tank.

Anyone? And thank you in advance.

No, I sure don't think so. I did the modification about 3 years ago and this has not happened this way. The only other time I have had this alarm in the past was when the starting battery got real weak (I run electronics and troll at low speed hours on end with this old beauty).

But I will take a look.

1. Get the manual.

2. Replace the "deflectors" under the water jacket covers.

3. It may need a pump too.

Wonder if you disturbed the cyl head overheat sensor wires (causing one to ground out and set off the horn) or maybe a bad sensor in the head you removed (unlikely but possible) also the wiring for the oil injection you removed, did you isolate/insulate that other warning horn wire?

Thank you all. I will check the wiring and take the advice of getting the manual online here.
