Whats up guys, I rebuilt a center console 21ft'er,i redid the boat from the hull up. I got a 1987 Everude Johnson 150cc V6 outboard and it had a VRO but the people who had the boat previously had taken it out. I cant get the motor to run smoothly.

The main problem now is the motor is "Spitting" so when its idling and/or i am hold the revs at consistent RPM in both neutral, forward or reverse it "Spits" and/or sounds like one cylinder is missing. I have been searching around and read tons of posts but no solutions have fully worked for me. I checked compression, spark, the gas, carbs(3), adjusted the choke, and also check to see if there was water getting in the cylinders. The carbs seem to be in sync aswell. All these tests have failed to show that it was the problem. I am totally stumped if anyone has some good ideas id appreciate any information! There is alot of new parts/cables/and connections, im assuming that there is maybe minor adjustments with cables?idk

Here is a you-tube video of what the motor is doing, its not the best vid but if you watch it and look at the smoke u can see it spit and you can hear the motor misfire if you listen close or have good speakers. This video was taken during my gasoline test, i thought maybe the gas was bad but i guess not.(running it at 50-1 / regular gas)

Here's what i replaced/upgraded to the boat:

- All new spark plugs
- Cleaned and re-aligned floats in all 3 carburetors
-all new gas(including 2 separators
-2 new thermostats
-1 power Pack
-Replaced defective spark plug wires
-All new Ignition coils
-All new throttle Cables
- redid faulty motor wires on the harness
-rebuilt the Impeller
-New Batteries
-Whole new Center Console setup(gauges/throttle ect.)
- Im sure i forgot some stuff.

Listened to your video on youtube. Sounds like a ignition timing problem. Anyone switched your plug wires around?
I am not too familiar with your motor, but have heard of magnets shifting in the flywheel causing similar problems. Again I am not sure about your motor, may be someone will chime in about the magnets.

It sounds like a lean spit to me. That could come from :
1) blown reed gasket
2) chipped reed
3) bypass cover gasket leaking or missing a bolt
4) intake manifold leaking or missing bolt
5) crankcase halfs leaking
6) scuffed piston

Cofe -- i replaced the bad plug coils and im assuming you mean that they are criss crossed at some location? if so, they are in the corect positions.

FaztBullet--
I know my droid did not take the best video but you think it could be a lean spit? I know the plugs do not look like the bike is running lean, they look fine? I do not know much about outboards(I stick to atv's/dirtbikes) but the motor did have some steam coming out of the exaust ports... I was using the earmuffs and i was in neutral and the cooling system was not spitting any water out is that correct? the water only spits out when the motor is in gear?

also the fumes and the smoke that comes out of the exaust are very strong at times..

i have all the carberators bolted into place and then i have a cover that mounts to the carbs, but i feel there should be some kind of air filter that goes here but there isnt... its just like an airbox cover and thats it.

when i rebuilt the center carb the (float was stuck), the motor ran great, the idle however was at like 2500rpm's with the muffs on. i adjusted the idle back down to 1200-1500rpms and this is when i started getting the missfire/spit again... but it spits and runs the same on any rpm now, it almost seems like it works fine one day when i go to start it before i go to test it at the lake then the next time it runs like this.

What is the open fuel filter hanging there?
What is compression?
Carb kits or just cleaned?
Were all the old parts replaced bad?
Clean up all grounds and make sure firing order is right.
Spark test each cylinder. Fault check wiring. Then spend money on parts, start with factory manual, fuel supply, carb kits, then ignition (you got some of it, which you could ruin with other things that might be bad, trigger, rectifier etc.). Trouble shoot step by step.

I didn't know they made a 5 cylinder V6:D

Definately sounds like a dead hole.
Compression, then spark test, set adjustable tester to 7/16ths inch gap.
Bet 6 donuts you find one or two weak sparks.
