Last year I damaged my prop on some rocks. I had the prop and skag fixed. This year when I started out from shore and hit the throttle, I felt a slight shake and suddenly it was like my boat went out of gear.... The engine was still running great, but I wasn't getting any power from the prop in both forward and reverse.

I have been told that there might be a shear pin??? I took off the nut holding the prop and everything looks fine and spins... Any ideas...

1983 75 hp evinrude model E75TRLCTE

Thank you in advance

No shear pin but could be a spun prop. The hub is pressed into the propeller and when you hit something the idea is to spin the propeller around the hub instead of tearing up the lower unit components.

Put the motor in gear in the driveway and push on a prop blade with your foot. If the prop spins and the hub doesn't, then you need a new hub.

Could be a linkage issue unrelated to the impact incident as well.

With motor off, put motor in forward gear and try to turn the prop. If it turns easily, you probably broke a drive shaft.

I put it in forward. when I turn the prop clock wise it would turn a bit and then I have to apply pressure and it will turn a bit then I have to apply pressure... so on... when i tried to turn it counter clockwise or to the left it would stop and not turn... I didn't want to apply alot of pressure.... does this help... I did not notice the hub turning independently of the prop......

Turning clockwise, was the motor turning as you turned the prop? If it was, drive shaft is ok.

How can I tell if the motor is turning.... I could turn the prop and then feel resistance , and then it would turn , then I would feel resistance. As you can tell I don't know much about boat motors... I can tell you that the prop was not spinning freely....... about each 1/4 turn I had to apply pressure to turn it..

Remove the motor top cover, watch the flywheel and see if it turns while turning the prop in forward gear.

I turned... and then stopped... there is slippage.... I am assuming that as the prop turns the flywheel should turn at the same pace??? Not good.... Am I looking at a very expensive repair??

Bring it into a marine shop, they would probably drop the lower unit and give you a repair estimate. You can decide what to do from there.

It could be a easy cheap to fix problem, and then it could be a major problem$. Hope the for the best!
