very new to boat motors but I would like to keep this matched set for my 72' courier 154. it has an 85HP chrysler 857HD CDI style ignition have heard these motors are bullet proof but have ignition issues. Motor cranks great have yet to check compression but have no spark yet. Are these motors worth my time and effort or should I buy a used/rebuilt motor..
Thanks

The boat is a gem and the engine is dirt simple. You don't say what the problem is, but pistons associated parts, and electronics are available. If you do the work yourself, the engine can be rebuilt entirely for a modest amount of money. And, you won't see anything like it on the water. When you do restore it, go to the Chrysler Nationals--Find out at the Chrysler Crew, Chrysler marine website.

BTW: The 154 does not indicate length; it indicates the interior volume of the hull. Yeah! Chrysler always did it different!

There is one odd thing, about the hull# also. I was able to register it but the boat, however the MIC (missing fist 3 letters) on the HIN tag, seems that law was put into effect in 72' mine must have been Mfg in late 71' or early 72'. My hull# only has nine digits. Are there alot of Chrysler fans?? and the length is 15'3" I believe.

Thanks

Just an FYI, if your engine is a Magnapower CDI set up with points, before you do ANYTHING else to diagnose the "No Spark" check you points, and clean ALL of the electrical conections under hood, especially the grounds and CLEAN and gap your points to .014". Ensure that the mating surfaces of the points match up too. This will cure MANY no spark issues. Finally, ensure that your battery is fully charged and the cables are NEVER reversed, you'll fry the CDI box quick! Good luck and I'd love to see some photos!
