New to forum and to boating. Recently purchased what the guy said was a 1978 Starcraft. Taking the paperwork to register it .....everything said it was a 1970 so not real sure what year it is. Inside the boat says its a TR-150. Boat is in good shape. Having a few problems with the 70hp Johnson. Any comments / advice would be greatly appreciated. I am not even sure where to start !!

Have been reading posts on this forum for a month now. Great advice and great pics on some restored Starcrafts.

Thanks in advance !!

On the back (transom) of the boat on the right (starboard) side should be your HID (Hull Identification Number). If it's there, that means the boat is most likely newer then 1972, and the last 2 number are the year it was built. If there is no HID, then yours is probably a '70.

Re: First Boat ??

Thanks ! All I could find was a serial number of 997508. Think it's probably a 1970. It's in great shape...will make do with it as far as a first boat. Would like to upload pics and maybe someone could help with questions/suggestions. I read a lot of posts...both pro and con regarding tri hulls.

Thanks for the help..

Thanks SeanT......have you owned one of these? Any problems with them? Looking at bimini tops for it...but sizing for one seems to be a stickler ! It's solid as far as I can tell....no soft spots in flooring. I believe I got a good deal in it....we will see !!

Re: First Boat ??

It's very similar to the first boat I remember my grandfather owning (there were more, but it's the first I remember). Is yours a tri-hull? That was my guess from the photo. I think his had a Johnson outboard as well.

My Dad and Uncles used to ski and kneeboard behind it all summer long. He'd bring it camping wherever he went. And when my grandpa couldn't come camping, my Dad would tow the camper and my mom would bring the boat!

I don't think you'll have any major issues with the motor, just look after it. The tri-hull will ride a little rough compared to a V, but you'll get used to that and adjust accordingly.
