Got an electrical problem the motor runs great but will only stay in gear for about 10-20min then reverts back to neutral it has the selectric shift on it. All i can figure is battery possibly not recharging is there a way to test charging circuit? NOOB to boat motors just lost on these animals:D

Hopefully some of the experts will respond to this.....since mine would display the same scenario.

Voltmeter,

Should show battery voltage when not running, and an increase over battery voltage when running.

Check across the battery and also across the green shift lead and ground.

UM...wait a minute, doesn't your motor have a ammeter? That will show at a glance whether or not the alternator is charging the battery. That motor will put out 20 amps with ease, if the battery is low or current use high.

sorry for the delay on reporting findings volt meter shows 13.6-13.8 volts dc shouldnt this be slightly higher? the ammeter shows between 10-20amps charging. new problem now though i have to rewire the harness and see bout the lack of water circulating. also you said check voltage across the green shift lead and ground? ill have to get back to that one once i get water circulating not sure how this one is suppossed to water hose on some water comes out some where(in my case none)?

Thanks,
