Hello All...I have a 1993 Force 150 outboard...I've been having some problems with my motor not running smoothly. It was suggested that I pull all three carbs and give them a good cleaning - so I'm in the process of doing that. When I re-install the carbs...what is the best way to adjust the carbs to get them close to where they need to be..I believe the true test and final adjustments will need to be done with the boat in the water?? Any help would be appreciated!! Thanks!

What problems are you experiencing exactly. Do you have a manual? The carbs need to be lynced and synced according to the manual; I wouldn't try it without one (clymer's or the factory service manual are best).

Yes, final adjustments are made with the boat in the water with load on the motor. The manual goes through all the adjustments in detail.

Have you checked compression, spark? Do the basics before diving into the carbs.

Thanks for the quick reply! I do have a manual...it's somewhat cryptic to me..this is the first time I've messed with carbs so I was curious is there is a "trick of the trade" that is known out there..."x" amount of turns for each adjustment etc....and yes, I've been through the basics...compression isn't exactly where I'd like to see it at...but all 5 cyl's are close in range...spark is good...filters are all clean etc

Fuel/air mixture screw adjustment should be set at 1 1/8 turn out from lightly seated but do the adjustment per the manual so you set it right for your motor. Don't go below 1 turn out from lightly seated. Idle adjustment after that should be set between 1000 - 1100 at neutral and 700-800 in gear. All done in the water.
