Hi all , new here . Just picked up a 15 foot rinker trihull and am not familiar with o/b , so can someone explain to me the proper usage of this thottle set up , it has a small lever in rear that seems to tuck away behind housing and there is a small buttom on top that doesnt seem to do anything , lever both have full range of motion front to back , aside from the large thottle lever , how is the smaller one used, tried watching the movement at motor and moving levers but cant figure out whats going on. thanks

Re: Lever operation help

The small leaver is used to start the boat, kind of like a high idle. It will let the boat rev up a bit. As for the button it looks like it might operate the choke.

Re: Lever operation help

As Can-am said the small lever is a throttle for cold starting, with it you can rev up the outboard without putting it in gear.

(edit) You will find that you have to back off the cold start throttle before you can put the outboard in gear.

Re: Lever operation help

You put it in neutral, pump the fuel bulb a couple of times to prime fuel, raise the cold idle lever a little, then hold the button while cranking the engine to engage the electric choke and start up. Let go of the choke button when it starts. Once warm you don't need the choke to restart. Might not even need it at all if the engine is is good tune and it's been run recently. Some o/b motors have a choke override control on the front of the engine cowling. On these in = no choke, middle = electric choke, and out = manual full choke.
