98 merc 175 black max issues

Hey guys I am having a problem with my engine. Its a 98 merc 175 blackmax. I took it out the other day and it ran great. I shut it off to fish afor a while then when i fired it back up floored it to get the boat on plane it wouldnt rev above 2000-2400 rpms. I tried several times with no luck.

I idled back to the dock and when I got it home I changed plugs, tested the spark, did a compression check "125-135psi on all", and cleaned out all the fuel lines, fuel filters with carb cleaner. I then sprayed all of the jet holes with carb cleaner. I took the boat back out and it ran great untill I shut it off, it then did the same thing.

I took it home sprayed the carbs again with the carb cleaner and it ran great again. This time I did not shut it off, but when I tried to load it on the trailer it would not go above 2000rpm's again.... I then backed off the trailer and went back out and it ran fine, but when I tried to put it on the trailer it would not rev past 2000rpm's again...

Any help would greatly be appreciated.

i would do a fuel pump rebuild

Like LM said, rebuild the fuel pump. Many of the guys here rebuild them every year anyway. If that doesn't work, do a 7/16 spark gap test if you have not done that with the spark test you did already. Then grab/order the manual and start diagnosing the ignition. Hopefully, not enough fuel = no WOT. As JMartin has preached, don't run it lean, or it might grenade: meaning, rebuild the fuel pump before you take it back out or else.
