135 Opti Overheat

I am having problems with my 05 Opti motor overheating. It will only overheat between 1200-3000 rpm. If I go below or above that range it is fine. It will go all the way up to about 167 degrees then drop like a rock once I increase rpms over 3000. I see a good stream coming out of the pisser. Any suggestions on what could be my problem would help. Thanks

It sounds like your having the opposite problems to me. Your poppet may be opening a bit late, the quick temp drops you see over 3000rpm is the poppet coming open.

A very experienced Merc Tech going by the name SOSMERC once posted a reply to a person with a similar issue to yours suggesting to cut of one twist in the poppet spring allowing the poppet to open early under lower pressure.
It seemed to have solved the problem.
