I am running a short shaft 25 on my aluminum boa with a PT 35 unit. I was wondering, I currently run my motor in the 2 pin hole from the boat side. If I move the pin all the way out would this help the motor sit deeper in the water? The reason being is if the PT unit was mounted just a tad too high, can moving the motor using the pin holes affect how deep it sits in the water?

You probably need to either tell us what brand of motor and boat you have or maybe post in the motor forum for that brand. Your abbreviations are beyond me and I thought I had a clue.

Short answer..... no

The PT unit was probably mounted correctly and that permits a motor to be positioned higher then normal due to the set-back from the trim unit.

Mounting the pin (or even completely removing the pin) will allow your motor to sit deeper at the hole closest to the stern of the boat.

If all else fails....... you will need to re-mount the entire trim unit.

CMC power tilt trim 35 horsepower engine, you cna get them for motors with out the tilt-trim from the factory.

There should be multiple mounting holes on the engine itself, get the engine up as far as you can until it cavitates(sucks air) then drop it one hole, this is on the engine mount itself not the trim pin.

I have a 50 and a CMC and run my cavitation plate even or just above the bottom of the boat.

Re: Boat motor pin hole position help

thats what I did when mounting it. What is puzzling is that I am running a powertech 14 prop on my suzuki 25. I tried a solas 15 and turbo prop hot shot 14 and both those props hit the rev limiter as the boat is set up now. I was wondering since th solas and turbo prob are slightly smaller diameter propls they are not getting enough bite in the water and cavitating just a tad. The powertech prop has longer fins and thus can bite the water a little better. I was thinking that by adjusting the pin hole the motor sets in I could drop the motor in the water deeper without remounting the entire PT (power tilt) unit.

Re: Boat motor pin hole position help

Moving the pin does nothing to lower the motor's overall height.

In fact, moving the pin does the exact same thing as the PT.

If the prop was ventilating, you would know it. I doubt that the prop is cavitating.

Does the boat run "bow up" now, or is the hull sitting up on top of the water?

If it is running bow up, you have likely trimmed out too far. Any porpoising?

Depending on the size/width and hull shape, you may just be adding weight to the hull and causing it to run bow up, butt down.
