Dont know the year but it looks like 90's. Very clean motor. Started first time this season and no pissing. Although after several minutes, the head is still only warm to touch. I have heard that Mercs dont **** right away and needs the tstat to open. ALso, unlike my JOhnson (also having issues) the merc has large diameter hose for telltale and I cant imagine enough pressure is built to get a strong stream. Kinda dribbles once in a while. Again, head is staying cool.

Looekd at intake screen under cavitation plate and half is missing. Windering if I sucked up some crap. It is in a fairly weedy lake. SHould I remove tstat and run without it so see if water is gettign up there?

As if I didnt have enough problems with my 84 9.9 Deahorse, now this/...???

How long has it been since the impeller and the T-Stat was changed? Might need to start with that. You could look and make sure the pee hole line is not clogged.

Exactly my thoughts. If it looks as new as you say, it probably wasn't taken out much which means it sat..... Replace the impeller, blow out the lines and for sure get a good intake screen. No need to ruin a new impeller by sucking stuff into it.

After changing my impeller etc, my 1975 7.5HP pumps like a charm. Right off the bat. I wouldn't want my motor to run for 90sec without cooling and don't believe thats how they designed the system. Is your water tube seated and lined up? Is there water in your lower unit by shift linkage and driveshaft? If not, and your impeller looks ok, I'd suspect it being plugged up somewhere.
