1. Worn out clutch dog and forward gear. Lower unit overhaul needed. $$ may be required.

2. Obviously needs a water pump. Do that while in there to fix the dog.

Any Evinrude dealer. Do yourself a favor and get a parts list specific to the motor. If you go to the dealer with the part numbers in hand, all he has to do is pull them off the shelf, or order them. Otherwise, he probably won't give you the time of day. Besides, he probably doesn't have the parts book either.

Some parts are available right here at iboats. But you will have to think Evinrude when looking for them.

You are in the best hands possible with F_R who can help you through any issue. I was curious what year Evinrude first listed a V4 model 60HP and believe it was 1964. If that is correct, then the link below may be helpful for ordering parts. As always, I depend on F_R to keep me straight and not create any confusion. Good luck with that great old motor!

EDIT: By the way, welcome to the forum. The experts here like F_R can help you with any issues involving a boat, motor or trailer. If you decide to work on your motor's problems yourself, I recommend you get a service manual. While the "factory" manual is preferred and still available from kencook.com, a non-factory version is also available free at an online public library at the link below. After LOGIN, drill down to: Small Engine, Marine/Boat Motors, Evinrude/Johnson, Outboard 4-cylinder 50 to 85HP (1958-1968), Condensed Service Data.

The Gale shares most mechanicals with the Evinrude/Johnson motrs of similar years.
60 hp Gale production covered 60,61,62 and 63.61 on up have fixed high speed jets,
58 though 63 share carbs with 58-60 have adjustable high speed jets. The plug wires are screwed into the distributor cap.61-67 models are equipped with either a belt driven magneto or a similar belt driven battery ignition distributor.
Often thought of as heavy motors at about 200 lbs they are 40lbs lighter than todays 2 cylinder Evinrude Etec 50.
They are extremely thirsty and waste a lot a fuel as many did back then.
Maximum rpm is 5,000. 24:1 fuel mix on 63 motors. You might check with the experts at www.aomci.org if the 63 60 hp Gale motors can be run on 50:1

Re: 1962 sea king SIXTY

My husband talked to you about our sea king motor but do you know anyone around Rockford ,IL that could work on the motor cheap. He dont want to take it apart and try to fix it because hes never done it and dont know what he doin and I dont have the time to mess with it but I dont have alot of money but we would like the motor so run smoothly. If the water pump was bad wouldnt that make the motor die. I think the water pump might be fine its just getting it to not jump when you have it in gear.

Re: 1962 sea king SIXTY

Does it jump like you hit something when you try to increase speed?
That could be a shift cable adjustment. If you un hook the shift and shift by hand
see if it works. If it still jumps then youi need to replace the clutch dag in the gearcase. You really need a factory service manual For the Evinrude/Johnson and or Gale motor.Reprint factory manuals are available here at iboats.
After market manuals are sometimes available at the library. If you have a friend or reltive that is mechanically inclined they can handle an outboard with a good manual and some help here.
