First Boat Manufacturer Question

I have read through the different forums, but haven't found a good match for my question, so thought I would start a new one.

I am new to boating, and my family and I (wife and 2 boys) are looking for a good entry level bowrider. Right now we are looking at a Stingray 195LR, Sea Ray 185 and a Chaparral 196ssi. They are all new, all well equipped, same size motors. The Stingray is the least expensive, followed by the Sea Ray, with the Chaparral topping out the 3.

What advice on these brands or models do you have?

Thanks for the welcome and the recommendation. I am new to iboats as well as boating in general, and every excited. Why the Sea Ray?

You'll have to decide that for yourself. They are all good boats. Go sit in each of the 3 models. Sit at the helm...does it seem like it will be comfortable to drive? Is there enough storage space? Can you store a fishing pole in the side console (if that is a requirement for you)? Which seating configuration meets your lifestyle the best?

From my perspective, I wouldn't like the Searay because for what I do the layout does not suit me and the windshield on their smaller runabouts are terrible. Ditto the Stingray because it just feels so cramped.

Another consideration is the dealer. My closest Stingray dealership is 60 miles away. The local Searay guy has a poor service department. When it comes time for me to buy a new boat, it will most likely be a Chap because my local Chap dealer is IMHO the best dealer in the state and I have already bought several boats from him over the past 40 years.

I figured he was, but I want to know why he is biased toward the Sea Ray. What makes it the best choice?

Personally, not a big SeaRay fan(I'm a Cobalt guy), although it has nothing to do with the quality of the boat. I just like to be different and there are A LOT of Sea Rays out there. Other than that, of the three boats you mentioned that would be my first choice for no reason other than they hold their value better than the other two. This is your first boat. Your next one will be bigger. You will want to sell at some point, and when you do you'll be better off with the SeaRay.

Pick whichever one you like the best and suites your needs the most. Use a checklist. Service is also a very important factor like the above ppl mentioned. All 3 brands are quality brands. I don't think you will go wrong with any of those. So all things being equal, which dealer has better service, and which do you like the best?
