Hello all...I have a Johnson GT 150 ('87) and I'm trying to conclude what is the issue with it not charging the battery when running? Could this be the rectifier/regulator? I have found what looks like a hole burnt on the top of the R/R on my outboard, haven't pulled the flywheel yet to confirm actual burn hole, but from what I can see, seems to be that. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Those GT models have this high output 35 amp alternators. It is possible you have burned the rectfier/regulator which nests in the cooling water at the top of the block, just under the flywheel. I'd try to repair this before using it. These high output systems generate a lot of current and have been known to cause electrical fires when components are defective.

Sorry to take so long to thank you for your advice. I appreciate it. Thanks again, I'll try the rectifier/regulator and see.
