OK, maybe a silly question but I'm new at this.

We're going on a 3 hour trip Friday and I want to repack my wheel bearings...double-axel ShoreLand'r hauling a Monterey 214FS.

Question is whether I can do this with the boat on the trailer? What will I need to do this?

Any help appreciated...thanks!

Yep, just jack up the entire boat and trailer. If boat is hooked up to tow vehicle then it'll hold it all in place, but if not, remember to put chocks at wheels to prevent it rolling off the jack. Jack stands are nice here also.

Sure you can do it with the boat on the trailer. I usually hook the trailer up to my truck just to insure it stays put. Then you just need a jack, jackstand, Hammer, adjustable wrench and a needlenose.

Your trailer may already be equipped with Bearing Buddies or grease zerk fittings on the ends of the spindles, so you can just pump some grease in them without removing the hubs. Check behind those little rubber cup/seals on the ends of your hubs.

Like all of the above.
Put the jack under the axle, then you only have to lift it a little bit versus under the trailer frame.

When was the last time the bearings were replaced? If more than six years I would probably just replace them. Not that expensive and not that hard to do.

Is 6 years some recommendation on bearing replacement? Either way , the OP still has to pack them.

The boat/trailer are 2008 so not near 6 - I just wanted to be on the safe side as we're traveling about 200 miles this weekend.

Thanks again for the replies!
