My 1982 - evinrude 140 stumbles a second when I slowly push the throttle forward - when I give it a hard throttle fast no stumble - is this due to the cheap gas - do I need to increase the octane from 89 to 92? Motor runs great otherwise. Any suggestions?

This should be asked in the Evinrude forum. This is the trailer forum.

But the answer is no.
Higher octane gas is not needed or recommended for outboards.
Clean fresh fuel is.

A slight stumble on acceleration is normal for 2 stroke outboards.
You may need a carb cleaning and linkage adjustment, but not higher octane fuel.
